Here's the thing, I love to dream cast musicals. I play casting director in my mind and come up with versions of shows I'd love to see. So I thought, why not dream cast a show with a group of insanely talented women, all from Canada!? So I present to you my all Canadian cast of Six The Musical.
Six The Musical is a concert musical about the 6 wives of King Henry VIII. It's an empowering show that gives each woman their own unique voice, giving them the control of their own stories. Written by Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss, it's an amazing, riveting show filled with history we've never been told. It's taken the UK by storm and is starting to hit the US with their original cast in Chicago. I'm basically doing the Canadian market a favor here. Without further a dieu, let's meet the cast.

For the first wife, Catherine of Aragon I have gone with non other than Alexis Gordon. You may know Alexis from Stratford's Carousel, A Little Night Music, Guys & Dolls and most recently Brigadoon. Alexis is an amazing woman, who's talent knows no bounds. She possess the pose that comes with carrying a character like Catherine of Aragon. A strong woman, who stays true to her beliefs and views. I think Alexis could have a really fun time playing Catherine, and I'd love to witness it.

For Anne Boleyn, I'm not going to spend much time talking about this performer because it's me. Of course in my dream casts I try to incorporate myself into them, what can I say I like the attention. For most that know me they would probably expect me to play Jane Seymour or Catherine Parr because of the stunning ballads, and believe me I almost gave myself one of those. But as I was thinking about this cast, I really wanted to challenge all of the women. So I gave myself a high energy, cheeky, sexy part. Feel free to check out my instagram as well, and check out the rest of the blog if you want more rambling about talented people!

Jane Seymour, the role I really wanted to give to myself. The only one Henry ever loved. This role goes to non other than the lovely and talented Tegan Verheul. I met Tegan in Vancouver in a production of Jesus Christ Superstar and oh my word the talent that comes out of this woman is astounding. Not only is she brilliant on stage, but she is beautiful inside and out, and knee slappingly funny. Tegan is a sight to see on stage, tall and mesmerizing. I can hear her voice singing Heart Of Stone, drifting into the theatre and ripping out everyones hearts in the most beautiful way possible. Check out Tegan's instagram if you want someone who will challenge you to love yourself and be the best you possible.

I've had the amazing opportunity to get to do theatre in Toronto, Niagara, Hamilton and Vancouver and wanted to make sure my dream cast reflected that. So you may notice that 3 of the girls on this list are from the Vancouver, BC area and the other 3 are from the Toronto area. The next in the cast is Anna of Cleves which I wanted to give to Ali Watson. I met Ali when we did a Canadian premiere of a show called Virgins: A Musical Threesome. In that time I grew to know and love Ali as a person and a performer. She is an extremely hilarious person, who absolutely shines on stage. I've never met someone who made me want to be a performer as much as Ali does, because she simply has such a great time while doing it. In Six, Anna of Cleves has a lot of personality and totally commands the stage. And I can't think of anyone else who would kill this role like her. Check out Ali's instagram.

Katherine Howard was kind of stumping me. I know a lot of talented women, and I wanted to make sure I found someone who was able to show the innocence, sex and pain that Katherine displays in her song. And then I thought of the crazy talented triple threat Julia McLellan. I met Julia way way back in a production of Grease. She was the Sandy to my Jan and we were instant friends. Julia comes all the way from Nova Scotia but has taken the world by storm with her talent. She just finished a run in Kinky Boots on Broadway, and is now taking on Katherine Plumber in Newsies with Drayton Entertainment. She's been a pro ever since I've known her, which is longer than I'd care to say. Not only is she talented but she is making the world a better place. You can check out her personal and her business instagram, where she is changing the world one post at a time. Teaching us all to be low to zero waste and how we can easily change that in our day to day lives.

Wow there were a lot of Catherines back in the 1500's. Our last wife is Catherine Parr, the surviver. And for her I've chosen another BC pal, Vanessa Merenda. Vanessa is beautiful, strong and stoic. She brings calmness and stillness to her performances which is so captivating. I met her in Jesus Christ Superstar where she played Mary, and was perfect. It's the little moments she creates on stage that make me think she would be perfect for Catherine. Heart broken, and willing to do what she needs to to survive. Check her our below.

I think the thing I love most about Six the Musical, is that it is a story all about strong, powerful women. It rewrites what we have come to know about the six wives of Henry the 8th, and gives them a voice. It mimics what is going on in the world right now. Taking the power and giving it back to women. Allowing us to tell our own stories and make our own paths. It connects us all through stories that have effected each and every one of us. This group of strong, wonderful, talented women are examples of the stories that need to be told. I wish these women all the best in their careers and their lives. I hope to work with you all again and let's get this show on the road!
